Osteopathy
in Rome San Giovanni
An approach that reads the body as a system of relationships, to understand why a problem persists and not only where it hurts.
Osteopathic reasoning, without the mythology
The underlying idea is simple and testable: the place where you feel pain is not always the place generating the problem. A shoulder that will not lift can come from a stiff thoracic spine. Recurring low back pain can be kept going by a hip that has lost rotation. A nagging knee can start from how the foot handles contact with the ground.
The osteopathic assessment goes looking for those relationships: where the system has lost mobility, where it has compensated, and whether that compensation still makes sense or has become the problem itself.
Mi sento già meglio e in ottime mani. Inoltre studio curato e puntualità impeccabile. Consigliatissimo!
How a session runs
- History. The story of the problem, past injuries even long ago, operations, loading habits, sleep, activity.
- Observation and movement testing. How you move in the actions that bother you, and what changes when I alter one variable.
- Palpation and specific tests region by region, to find where mobility is reduced and tissues are reactive.
- Manual treatment chosen to fit the case: joint techniques, soft-tissue work, myofascial release, muscle energy techniques.
- Re-check. The test that was positive is checked again. If nothing has changed, the model was wrong and needs revising.
When I combine it with physiotherapy
Almost always, and that is why I keep both qualifications live. Manual therapy opens a window: it settles sensitivity and gives back range of movement. If exercise does not go through that window, the tissue returns to where it started and the patient comes back every month. Manual treatment makes active work possible; active work makes the result last.
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between physiotherapy and osteopathy?
They are two distinct healthcare professions with different training routes. In practice, here, what changes is mainly the lens and the goal: the osteopathic assessment looks at relationships between regions and at the mobility of the system; physiotherapy builds load capacity and takes you back to the movement. The same person often needs both, and picking one over the phone before an examination makes little sense: we decide after the assessment.
Does osteopathy mean having your back cracked?
Thrust techniques — the ones that produce the joint noise — are one of the options available, not osteopathy itself. They are not compulsory, they are not suitable for every case, and I do not use them without a reason. If you would rather not have them, we work another way: just say so.
Is it suitable for children or during pregnancy?
Both call for specific precautions and an assessment of their own. In pregnancy we need to know the trimester and to rule out obstetric contraindications, which must be checked with the obstetrician looking after you. Get in touch and we will talk it through before you book.
How long is a session?
The first assessment takes longer than the sessions that follow, because it includes a full history and physical examination. You are told the actual length when you book.

The first step is working out where the problem comes from. That is exactly what the initial assessment is for, before any treatment.
